Refugees & the Church

You have surely heard of the refugee crisis going on around the world. People are leaving their home country in order to escape persecution and hostility. Syrian refugees in particular have been on the forefront of our minds as we have been hearing of the over 11 million who have left the country in order to escape the conflicts going on in Syria. Syrians are attempting to escape to boardering countries like Lebanon and Jordan on rafts in the cold waters. The trek to the countries are brutal and not many make the journey.

Many countries, including the US, has been debating on what to do about this crisis. Refugees are looking for a country to run to and many are closing off their borders in fear of the threat of terrorism, because there is little room within the country, or for a number of different other reasons.

While all of this is going on one group in America has remained silent: Christians.

Sadly believers in America have adopted a worldview of preservation for their own country instead of a Biblical view of justice, love, and sacrafice. David Platt, current president of the International Mission Board, spoke about the refugee crisis and how Christians should respond in light of it.
